BUGONIA (Emma Stone, Jesse Plemmons)
Directed by Yorgos Lanthamos
Ocotber 24th
The holiday season is set to begin with BUGONIA from director Yorgos Lanthamos: a comedy/sci-fi in which two conspiracy obsessed young men kidnap the high-powered CEO of a major company, convinced that she is an alien intent on destroying planet Earth.
BUGONIA is an adaption written by Will Tracy (cowriter of The Menu) based on the South Koren film Save the Green Planet! directed by Jang Joon-hwan who was set to direct the American remake. The film is produced by Ari Aster who recently collaborated with Stone on his upcoming film with A24 Eddington.
BUGONIA marks Lanthamos and Stone’s fourth collaboration and also features Jesse Plemmons who appeared in his most recent project Kinds of Kindness this past year. Stone has received two Oscar nominations and her second Best Actress Academy Award for Poor Things (2023).
This is Lanthamos’ first feature working with distributor Focus Features; his past works since The Favourite (2018) have been distributed by Searchlight Pictures.
It will be interesting to see how BUGONIA performs after Kinds of Kindness spark the interest of movie-goers, earning only $16M worldwide. The Favourite earned just under $100M globally while Poor Things surpassed that with $117M worldwide. It is important to note: Kinds of Kindness was released 6 months after Poor Things and only three months after Stone’s Oscar win for her role. Were movie-goers still full from Poor Things? Aside from its premiere in competition at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, Kinds of Kindness did not have the
Yorgos is a one of a kind visionary; his essence difficult to pin down. It is always exciting to see what he’s conjured up!
Frankenstein (Oscar Issac, Jacob Elordie, Mia Goth)
Directed by Guillermo Del Toro
November TBA
Frankenstein will be released on Netflix this November with an unannounced date. Oscar-winner Guillermo del Toro adapts Mary Shelley’s classic tale of scientist Victor Frankenstein (Oscar Issac) and the creature he brings to monstrous life played by Jacob Elordi.
This will be Mia Goth’s first performance since her breakthrough performance in Ti West’s X trilogy in which she delivered a show-stopping Oscar worthy performance as the titular character in Pearl.

After Frankenstein, she is set to appear in Christopher Nolan’s adaption of The Odyssey (Summer 2026).
Guillermo del Toro, Oscar Isaac, and Mia Goth? Christmas is coming early this year! 😌
Die My Love (Jennifer Lawrence, Robert Pattinson)
Die My Love directed by Lynne Ramsay premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival and is based on the novel written by Ariana Harwicz. The film follows Grace (Lawrence) and Jackson (Pattinson), a loving couple who leave New York for an inherited old home in and around Montana. Locked away after welcoming a new baby, Grace begins acting increasingly agitated and erratic, leaving Jackson increasingly worried and helpless as she slowly slips into madness.
Die My Love will be distributed by European company Mubi which continues to establish itself in the North American arthouse market alongside A24 and NEON.
Last year Mubi purchased 20 titles at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival including Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance starring Demi Moore which earned several Academy Award nominations including Best Picture, Best Director (Fargeat), and Best Actress (Moore).
Lawrence received rave reviews for her performance out of Cannes and may very well earn her fourth Academy Award nomination for Best Actress at the 2026 Academy Awards. She earned her first Oscar for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook in 2013 and holds an additional nomination for Best Supporting Actress in American Hustle.

Predator: Badlands (Elle Fanning, Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi)
Directed by Dan Trachtenber
November 7th
The film is set in the future on a remote planet, where a young Predator (Schuster-Koloamatangi), outcast from his clan, finds an unlikely ally in Thia (Fanning) and embarks on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary.
Predator: Badlands will be Predator’s return to the big screen with Dan Trachtenberg returning as director after Prey (2022) and the animated film Predator: Killer of Killers (2025) which both released on Hulu. This will be an absolute treat for fans of the franchise after many believed Prey was worthy of a theatrical release.
Did you know both the Alien and Predator franchises are owned by The Walt Disney Company and distributed through 20th Century Studios?
Will Disney be able to reenergize a brand introduced in 1979 (Alien) and 1987 (Predator)?
Predator—the last installment of the franchise—was released in 2018 and universally panned by critics and audiences. Prey, Predator: Killer of Killers, and Alien: Romulus (2024) all set in the Alien/Predator universe would receive consecutive positive reviews.

Disney is rebuilding and breathing new life into an IP with the creative and narrative craftsmanship it never received.
Disney could take a similar approach to the IPs as it has with Avatar. The franchise would make for a great attraction at Disney World’s recently announced Villain’s themed land which comes on the heels of Universal’s successful Epic Universe opening in Orlando.

Wicked: For Good (Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande)
Directed by Jon Chu
November 21st

Elphaba now demonized as The Wicked Witch, lives in exile, hidden within the Ozian forest while continuing her fight for the freedom of Oz’s silenced Animals and desperately trying to expose the truth she knows about The Wizard.
Glinda, meanwhile, has become the glamorous symbol of Goodness for all of Oz, living at the palace in Emerald City and reveling in the perks of fame and popularity. Under the instruction of Madame Morrible, Glinda is deployed to serve as an effervescent comfort to Oz, reassuring the masses that all is well under the rule of The Wizard.
As Glinda’s stardom expands and she prepares to marry Prince Fiyero in a spectacular Ozian wedding, she is haunted by her separation from Elphaba. She attempts to broker a conciliation between Elphaba and The Wizard, but those efforts will fail, driving Elphaba and Glinda only further apart. The aftershocks will transform Boq and Fiyero forever, and threaten the safety of Elphaba’s sister, Nessarose, when a girl from Kansas comes crashing into all their lives.
As an angry mob rises against the Wicked Witch, Glinda and Elphaba will need to come together one final time. With their singular friendship now the fulcrum of their futures, they will need to truly see each other, with honesty and empathy, if they are to change themselves, and all of Oz, for good.
Universal
Wicked earned $756M worldwide, making it the most successful adaption of a broadway musical—surpassing Mamma Mia!’s $611.5M! MAMMA MIA! The film was met with commercial and critical acclaim—receiving 10 Academy Award nominations including Best Picture, Best Actress (Erivo), and Best Supporting Actress (Grande). Wicked would win 2 Oscars for Best Costume Design (Paul Tazewell) and Best Production Design (Nathan Crowley; Set Decoration: Lee Sandales).
Will Jon Chu get the Academy Award nomination for Best Director many believe he was snubbed from for Part 1? Will the two actresses be nominated once again? It’s a tough call as the film has not been released. Only five actors have ever been nominated for the same role twice. If I could take a guess: there’s a higher likelihood only one actress will earn another nomination (depending on the competition) or only Jon Chu receiving a nomination than the odds of both actresses receiving another—but stranger things have happened!
